What is DUI?

image: DOA block car keys and wineDriving under the influence (DUI) is defined as the criminal act of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or both. DUI is also the criminal act of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher.

It is important to emphasize the fact that an individual can be charged with “driving under the influence” if he or she operates a motor vehicle while under the influence of any amount of drugs or alcohol, or a combination of the two, which makes the person unable to safely operate the vehicle that he or she is driving.

The key point to highlight here is that an adult can receive a DUI with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) that is less than .08%.

Many people who receive an DUI wonder why they should bother getting a DUI attorney. As you stated in your article, when people get a DUI, they are in a vulnerable situation and need to consult with a DUI lawyer they can trust. Also as you noted, a DUI lawyer will represent a person who was arrested for DUI and also guide him or her through the many complexities that are involved in a DUI court case.

  2. Lois says:

I got some real good advice from my boyfriend BEFORE I got a DUI. He told me that if I ever get arrested for a DUI, make sure I get a good DUI attorney. So when I got a DUI last year, I did exactly that. I had to pay a pretty big fine but my attorney got me off from spending any time in jail and he also did his thing so I wouldn’t lose my driver’s license.

  3. Danny says:

I think your article was right–DUI attorneys know and understand the “system” and as a result, can substantially reduce the jail time of most people who receive a DUI.

  4. Becky says:

It’s sad but people who get a DUI and who can’t afford an attorney need to dig deep and make sure they somehow get the money for a good DUI lawyer.

  5. Roman says:

I was an occasional drinker but still got a DUI of all days on my birthday. Since I had never been arrested for anything, I was simply going to go to court and answer a few questions, get slapped on the wrist, pay a fine, and get on with my life. My father, however, disagreed with my logic and explained how important it is in our law-oriented society to have good representation in court for a DUI case. Of course my dad was right, and other than a big fine, everything went real well in court. Ever since then, I always drink in moderation.

  6. Fred says:

After I got my DUI last month, I heard all sorts of grief from my parents. How is it that we have bars all over the place, but we can only have a few drinks? When I got my DUI I think I was totally in control and felt sober as a judge. Are our drunk driving laws far too strict?

  7. Mitch says:

Your advice in your article about DUI attorney info is quite accurate. Unfortunately in this society, if a person gets a DUI, he or she doesn’t stand much of a chance of representing himself or herself in court. Sure it costs quite a bit for an attorney, but in the long run this is the best way to go.

  8. Harry says:

Unfortunately, I recently got a DUI. The good news is that my DUI attorney is top rate. Hopefully this will help reduce the charges I will surely receive.
